Im rebuilding a 1977 85 hp v4 evinrude, and I'm about ready to mate the crankcases. The manual calls out 1000 sealer, but what is that sealer, and what would be a good substitute that i could get at a automotive store.

Are you using the spegetti seal also?

I like to use the Gel Seal instead of that gasket sealer.

Good luck!

I think I read somewhere here that Loctite 271 red thread locker is the same as OMC/Bomb Gel seal...

But don't take that too the bank just yet! ;)

Sealer 1000 is available at any J/E dealership as Adhesive M. It is also now made by Boat Armour who makes glass, resins, etc.
