I had a 1970 Johnson electric sea horse 75 horse power motor given to me a few years ago. I have never started it since I've had it. I need to know the mixture ratio and I need to know what should I do before I try to start it up?

I believe the mixture should be 25:1 mix and as far as making sure everything runs properly.. you can either take it in and get it checked. Or if your a do-it yourselfer.. make sure its got new gas, new spark plugs, check the fuses, check or replace fuel filter. Good luck. :)

The oil mixture on Johnson/Evinrude engines increased to 50:1 in 1964.

Howdy, Robert.

Do a search on preparing engines that have been stored for a long time. There have been lots of those and the suggestions are lengthy.

Good luck. :)

Lark has the right idea. take it a step further and squirt a little oil in the cylinders through the spark plug holes before you put new ones in and turn the engine over by hand. also make sure it is on a boat and in the water. the water pump will probably be rotted if it has not been changed in the last 10 years. anyway, take a shot at it and be aware of what happens if it cranks up. especially the water pump .........
