What size fuse?

1963 Merc, thanks for all the help already, if I need fuses between the bat. and the throttle, which wires should have a fuse and what size? And same with the throttle to the motor, which ones and what size?<br /><br />I am running one bat. for the motor and one for a stereo and fish finder. <br /><br />What is a power pack and do I have one?

No fuse beween the battery and engine but a fuse on the wire at the engine that feeds the the ign. and starter switch you don't have a power pack thats for CD ign

On the internal harness, on the black wire"E" before the terminal block or between the term. block and the ign. ballast? And on the yellow ign. wire"B"? And what size would you recommend for these, thanks. duncan

I finally went back to page 47 in the manual and see that the feed wire for the ign switch and control box is is the white wire in the harness and does not come off the starter solonoid like later engines, but is bonded to the main battery cable making it much more diffecult to put the fuse in. At this point you may want to forget about it, the other option would be to find a place that is acessable and open the harness and install a 25 amp fuse in the white wire. I should have checked the manual better and hope I didn't mislead you--bob

thanks bob, no misleading at all, lots of help, i will do that and hopefully i wont screw anything else up in the process. Can you tell me what a mercury switch does? This is my first BOAT motor and am a trying to get this all down. thanks again-duncan

sure its the little vial on the exhaust cover, if you hit an underwater object at WOT it kills the ign. system so the engine don't come down under full power

thanks, so if i wanted to replace the ign. ballasts, could i use auto ones? I saw on another post that a 55-57 chevy ign. ballast would work, i dont see why it wouldnt.

as long is the resistance reading is the same as the coil calls for it don't matter what kind it is auto or whatever --bob
