What Size Gas Tank

So this boat is my first that doesn't have a built in tank.

It's a 15ft Grumman CC with a Johnson 48Spl. Boat alone weigh about 500 plus the motor about 200.

When I bought it it had a 12 gal gas tank sitting in the bow area with a fuel line running the length of the deck.

So my question is, considering I'll probably use this maybe 3 -4 running hours at a time with short full throttle runs maybe 2 or 3 lasting 20 minutes, do i really need a 12 gal tank?

What kind of run time should I expect with this motor.

Re: What Size Gas Tank

In all my boating years, I've used two 6 gallon tanks with anything larger than 15hp. There is a certain feeling of security knowing that if I run out of gas in one, I have enough in the other to get back home. Well except for the V4-75hp that I once had. I couldn't carry enough gas to go where I wanted to go with that one.

I like 2 sixes, also, for the reasons stated. sometimes you'll leave one home to give you more room and to cut weight. You can shift them around to balance weight. You may find you never use all 6 gallons and keep one half full, or just carry a 1 gallon jug, for reserve.

you can probably sell the 12 at your next yard sale, or keep it if you are going on a long trip, with a 6 for reserve.
