I have the seahawk 500 dinghy and would like to get an appropriate sized trolling motor for it. The motor mount says it can handle a 2.5Hp motor but im not sure what that would be in Lbs of thrust. The total capacity of the boat is 520 lbs and the boat itself ways 80 lbs with gear What size trolling motor would you reccomend from Minn Kota Endura series to get this boat going at a reasonable speed and what would the speed approximately be?

Hi Cankywanky?? Welcome to iboats. The Endura motors are a good choice for your application. I would go with the 30lb. 30 inch shaft model. They can be had for under $100 and will get your boat going about 4 to 5 mph. Getting anything bigger will not give you any more speed and will just drain your battery faster. Good luck!

At full throttle, it'll last 1.5hrs. In an emergency, it'll power that motor for 3hrs, but doing so will damage the battery and reduce it's lifespan.
Spend good money on an automatic charger.
Good luck!
