I was just gifted a 97' bayliner jazz with the sport jet 175xr2. The boat has been sitting under cover for 2 yrs. The engine poped off with a little starting fluid for a few seconds, twice, now nothing. There is fuel coming out of the fuel pump.I cleaned all accessable grounds to the engine. now I have no spark at the plug. any help would be great. links? thanks.

That 175 sport jet is actually a Mercury outboard powerhead. Will move this to the Mercury forum for answers.

The Merc Ign Modules use a black wire (with a yellow trace), grounded through the ign switch OR the lanyard switch, to kill the ign.

Use an ohm meter and test continuity to ground with the key ON. If grounded then NO SPARK.

If no ground and still no spark then search this site for 'No Spark' for procedures.

Rapair/CDI Electronics has an excellent Ignition Troubleshooting Guide available on-line with detailed testing procedures.
