I have a 1980 70 hp Evinrude model #E70ELCSA. The problem I have is I need a tilt trim junction box, the whole shootin match everything. The evinrude website says it takes part #0582044. Can I use a different part # than the one listed or am I stuck trying to find an exact replacement?

Before you possibly purchase something in error...... how many wires lead from the PTT electric motor, 3 or only 2 ?

If there are three heavy duty wires leading from that electric motor in one harness, you don't need a PTT junction box, you simply need to wire the unit as per this diagram.

NOTE:
RED wire from battery to solenoid = Regular battery cable or whatever originally came with the PTT setup.
BLUE wire from solenoid to electric motor = Same gauge as what's on electric motor.

Good diagram Joe, couldn't get any more simple than that.

So all I would need to get is the solenoid that was in the original junction box?

You need whatever you don't have. If you have everything except the solenoid, then yes.

You can use a regular starter solenoid if you care to, BUT it must have the same setup, that is two (2) large terminal connections and two (2) smaller terminal connections.
