Re: What to check when buying a boat with an old MERCRUISER 470
Great.. I'll get it to you asap, I forgot to grab it but will definitely get a pic of the serial number soon as I need that manual.
On another note, I did drive it at full throttle for maybe 20 minutes when I was out on Wednesday and I ended up getting a giant exhaust leak at the rubber vertical coupler that mates the exhaust riser of the manifold and the tube on the out drive that I presume goes out to the transom and then the bellows (which I already changed). After inspection I realized theres a tear at the top near the upper flex section about 1/4inch long (Maybe it melted or torn I don't know) but it's leaking alot of exhaust into the doghouse and I need to fix it. I can't find the part online, the only 'similar looking' part I found was this https://bpi.ebasicpower.com/pc/GLM89060/MER9D and in the description it doesn't say its for my motor. I have a mercruiser 470 mated to an alpha one outdrive. If anyone knows of some kind of rubber putty similar to jb weld I can use on high heat rubber on a section that flexes alot that would be great but I somehow doubt that exists.
What is the serial number of the engine and I'll post up a link to a service manual for you... Revs at wide open throttle should be between 4200 and 4600...
Chris........
