What to replace a 2.3 with.

Trying to get my ducks in a row for a replacement, rebuild, re-power. Sig say it, and what I'm finding is that I'm looking at $1000 in materials (expensive non-existent exhaust manifold) and the other stuff for a rebuild.

Question is, what can I replace it with? 3.0 4.3? and not have to get into replacing the outdrive? If I'm going to spend a grand, then I figure I might as well throw it at an engine where parts are more available.

I'm not looking for more power (would rather have the economy than speed).

I did make the effort to search for engine swap info here, but there was no answer that I could find (everyone wanting a V8 swap)

Ayuh,.....

It's just that Everybody knows how much I just Love the old OMCs,.......

Especially when they're mounted in Old Bilgeliners................

Recently a date when I told her that I had bought a boat after selling my old one asked "why did you sell your boat just to turn around and buy another?" The only answer I could come up with after going brain dead at the moment was "It's bigger!". She chuckled and shook her head, so I think she understood.
