Re: What truck and why?
Everyone has a favorite. Mine has to be Ford. Second choice would be Dodge. The finally if I had to, Chevy.
I have had both Ford and Chevy, and now a Dodge. I have never been lucky enough to get a Chevy over 120,000 miles. Always have problems with the heads and spinnin bearings.
I have worked on twice the Chevies in my shop as I have Fords. I am not at all impressed by the Chevy heads, older ones anyway. Seams if the engine heats slightly, the head is cracked. I have overheated my Fords to the point of killing the engine on several unfortunate occasions. All 3 times, let it cool and fired it up for another 50,000 miles.
My friend was always braggin how good his Chevy was. Last time he bragged to me, we had his engine torn down AGAIN with only 75,000 on it. He thought this was good. My 76 Ford truck was turning 250,000 with no major repairs and very few minor repairs.
Every car manufacturer has it's share of lemons. I have had both Chevy and Ford. I prefer Fords because they have given me better performance and more miles. But everyone has their own opinion.
By the way, if I remember my history right, General Motors was formed by two men who worked for Henry Ford. They made what they thought to be a new better head design. Ford rejected their ideas, so they formed their own company. Not too many years later they again switched head designs becasue theirs wasn't working well.
I say in todays automotive world, if you don't get over 150,000 miles on a vehicle then it is operator error.
