What type Alpha one do I need???

I just bought a speed boat with a 1987ish Mercruiser 260 V8 engine. Engine runs good but only one problem, no outdrive. What outdrive do I need to mount on the V8? What gear ratio? Thanks.

How do you determine that it's a 1.50:1 gear ratio by looking at the drive. This guy I know has one but doesn't know how to determine the gear ratio.

The only sure way is to count the teeth. Take the top off it should be 22/20 I believe.......

I've heard about the 22/20 teeth thing. What "top" part do I remove to count the teeth? Do I separate the lower unit from the mid unit?

The part with 4 bolts on it on the top, no you do not need to separate the upper and lower cases.
