gaugeguy, no, dad wasn't calling me a baby.
He seriously thought it would be a nice thing for me to have.

He doesn't have many bright ideas, probably a result of drinking 18 beers a day. (a quarter barrel every 5-6 days)

Maybe he was hinting that he wanted grandchildren.
Don't know.
Don't care.
Don't matter.

One year he bought me and my older sister a couple pairs of boxing gloves. She gave me a shot, and I returned the favor - to her nose. Dang if I didn't get yelled at. But what did he expect us to do with boxing gloves?

Re: What was your worst Xmas gift ?

I am with Wikelam. I have also never recieved "bad" gifts. I always take into account the fact that they tried. I actually could care less if I get gifts, I am a bit old for that. I do like getting good gifts though. I am very difficult to shop for, so my family has learned through the years that there is only one sure gift for me, and that is cold hard currency. My better half will always get me something from the heart, and also something useful, but she makes sure the useful something is actually useful by asking me exactly what I would want, down to the model number. This year it was a hand-held GPS, but she didn't know what to get at all, didn't even know what a GPS was, so I picked it out and she bought it (I found it on ebay and got it for half of the in-store cost).

People are always tempted to give me tools. Of course, you can never have too many tools, but I have thousands of dollars of tools in the garage, it may be time to think of other gifts. When I do get tools, they are almost always cheapies that end up in the yard sale I have every summer. Its too bad, but I would break them so quickly with what I do, so better someone else get use out of them. My better half is wise, she was taught by her father that if she buys her man tools, they have to come from Snap-on, Mac, or at least Craftsman.

I gotta agree. I am one that gets many tools. I know have most of the basics (good brand too) and many other specailty tools.

I have never gooten a bad gift, and like many of you, I do not expect anything. I think that as many men get older, they become harder to buy for. Our hobbies get more expensive and it is difficult for soemone to fork out that kind of cash on a gift (except maybe the spouse). If I know that I am looking at something big (like at Home Depot, or for the boat) I try to ask for gift certificates to the store. That way, weather someone watns to give a $25 or $100 dollar gift, they all got to contribute to something that I wanted and will use.

My list this year,
Marine VHF & GPS probably will not get either unless the Gift Certificate idea works. But that is okay. I am looking forward to the time off and the traveling to see family.
