I just picked up a nice 40 jonny super quiet qd-22 well this thing is a 1960 the carb has both water and heat exhaust as part of the choke operation, I have heard its not a great system and to just use the manual choke. was wounder should I bypass the water & exhaust, or should I hook everything as original and then just use the manual choke setting to start, If I do bypass the water to carb whats a good way (jumper hose top to bottom?) well what would you guys do? thanks.

Hi kodi. Are you sure it's a QD-22? That would make it a '61 10 hp Johnson.

Yep it was late, It is indeed a RD-22 and a very fine one at that, but this choke thing has got me thinking they went a bit overboard on the engineering, it has hoses going in all directions, water, exhaust gas the whole 9 yards, I kinda like to keep things on the simpler side, I think I can just hook the two water lines together in a loop and plug the exhaust line, then use the manual choke?
