"He made a tourniquet from the shirt he was wearing. At first, he used a hacksaw blade, and then a larger blade, The Associated Press said. He was almost done but couldn't make it through a bundle of nerves, and he remained trapped."

Did anybody see this? http://www.aolnews.com/nation/artic...-do-before-trying-to-cut-off-his-arm/19518866

  I'd try to cut the damn furnace first. This dude has lot of guts but he's no MacGuyver material.

I think MacGuyver would have destroyed the boiler to get his arm out. Sure this wasn't a scene out of one of the "Saw" movies?

If I read right I believe this guy noticed his arm was infected, and by hacking his arm, slowed the infection from entering his bloodstream.

It stinks though that it took 3 days for anyone to check up on him in his house.

If it were MacGuyver, I'm sure there would have been a bomb in the boiler.

A life-threatening infection in that short amount of time? Hardly seems likely.

In addition; it was not like he was in the wilderness where no one knew where he was. The house looked to be in a suburban setting. Mailman, other people would surely be coming by.

I don't mean to be cruel, but it sounds like the guy is a few fries short of a happy meal to have done what he did.

I agree.^^^^ I think I could have held out hope for rescue a good bit longer than he did.
