CI means they're both 1981. The L in the second one indicates it's a longshaft engine for a boat with a 20" transom. The one without would be for a 15" transom.<br />Letter code works like this:<br />INTRODUCES<br />1234567890<br /><br />So ER would be '94 since E=9 and R=4.
