what year is my Johnson 70 hp??

I'd like to find out what year my Johnson is, J70TLCNB,
did a search but couldn't find it.. I need the bottom gear case for it & wondering if a 1978 70 hp gear case or leg would fit.??

Its an '82 based on the serial number. Gearcases have different P/Ns but I don't know if that means they wont cross. P/N for your gearcase is 0392471 and the one on the 78 is a 0388753. Both of those numbers are for the 20" unit.

Keep your eye on eBay. You should be able to find a lower for 300 or less. I lucked up and got a lower for my 95 '115 for $107 shipped

Thanks, I found a lower for a 1982 70 hp, & the guy says the shaft is a 4 spline, but he says there also are multi spline... Is this correct, & if mine is a multi spline, can I exchange mine with the 4 spline. I don't have mine out yet..

I don't believe you can without swapping the driveshaft or the crankshaft. The splines on the unit you're going to put on it have to match the splines on the crank.
