What year is my Johnson motor?

I know there are post that show how to identify the year by model number but everyone one I have looked up does not cordnate with my model number.

This is a johnson 115hp?

Model:115393M

Serial# j0010978

From what I have read is I need to decode from the model number and NOT serial number? I thought this motor would be a 1978 cause of the last 2 digits on the serial but was told no thats wrong...

Please help cause Im trying to find a tilt n trim used on ebay for my motor. thanks

if that model number is correct i think you have a 1973 evinrude 115hp

According to the # it's a 1973 115 hp Evinrude.

ok thank you, the boat had a 135 hp johnson hood on it, and the plate said evinrude but someone told me they were the same company. I'm freshly new to the boating/engine see. thanks you very much!!!!

its true the motors are the same in most cases they are just a different color.

I have another question:

I need to get a power tilt n trim for this motor. The boat 96 Bassmaster already has the controls for tilt n trim from factory but this motor just has manual tilt.

This guy I know has a tilt n trim off what he says is an 70's evinrude Model # 150849 he cant see if there is a 7th digit cause it was scratched off but would the tilt/trim off this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ motor fit mine?
