What year is this 65hp Suzuki

Hey all,

Can someone help me determine the year of this engine? My understanding is that the identification plate on the mount should help but that reads "J140TCLTE" which leads me to a 140hp Johnson. ?? i cannot find any other id plate or model number to help.

Hi Dean You can clearly see that the transom bracket have been replaced .... therefore it could be the transom bracket of a johnson, but no doubt it is a 80's suzuki ....

Hey deejaycee_2000,

Thanks. I kinda thought that the bracket had been changed. Is there any other way to find the model number of the engine? It seems odd that the only id plate (that i can find) is on a replaceable part.

I have had a 65hp Suzuki since 1985 and 1987 engines and none of them look anything like your pic`s . it must be much earlier then 1985 ! BTW still trying to locate a crankshaft for my 65hp suzuki !

The only place to identify the year is on the ID plate which you don't have, must say it looks more like a late 70's early 80's model anyway, as the 65hp is 3 cyl adn they started building the 3cyl from 1985 .......

Hey deejaycee_2000,

Wow. That seems like poor planning.

Do you mean that the engine that i have, which is a 2 cylinder, is not a 65hp? i guess that it shouldn't surprise me if they had switched cowlings as well as the bracket.

No it is still 65hp, I just meant that suzuki made the 2 cyl suzuki 65hp in the earlier years ....
