What year is this Merc 65?

Hi<br />I've got a Merc 65 that I bought as a non runner to fix up. The serial number is 3335022. The search option on here has indicated that it's a 1972, but I'm not so sure. It is a blueband, but the cowling is the later, square plastic one. Also, the engine doesn't look like it could be that old, I'd guess the age at mid 80's. <br /><br />Were all Mercs made in the USA or Canada? Were some made in Belgium like the OMC's, and would that make the serial numbers different with regard to year of manufacture?<br /><br />Thanks in advance.<br />Steve
