i have a mercruiser 3.0l serial # b964410 best I can tell from searching here and the internet this is an 88 or 89 model? is this correct thanks for the help.

mercruiser does not specify by year, usually a range of serial numbers - serial number is by far the best way to look up parts, its how they base thier epc lookup
a 1997 boat could easily have an engine assembled in 1995, sea ray, bayliner, cobalt, etc do not manufacture the engines, they just use mercruisers packages
