What's a good alternative to old rub rails?

Well, Yes and No!!! There are additional rivets holding the topcap to the hull, However I wouldn't count on them being enough to totally secure it enough. I would HIGHLY recommend that you NOT leave the Rub Rail OFF your boat. However it is your boat and you're free to do as you see fit.

I agree with WOG ..you do need some sort of rub rail . Otherwise it's gunna get beat to pieces ..
