ebb, what ever you did worked - I see 'em now for the first time and after careful examination, I am stickin' with the aleeuns guess! I can tell, cause they don't like close-up taken of 'em. Every picture in the Enquirer is fuzzy, just like the close-up here! Must be one!

Re: what's buggin you?

First thought was some sort of stonefly but looking at the jaws got me a little thrown off so I checked it out in a book and came up with a male Dobsonfly. It's harmless the jaws are strictly used in mating I would assume to hold onto the female. These flys spend thier subadult life (three years) in the water much like mayflies and stoneflys do. The larvea/sub adult form is called a hellgramite which make excellent live bait. Most likely the reason you found it weakened is it had already mated which usually ends it's life just like a mayfly. I don't know a whole lot more about them except they range throught the US from the Rockies to the East coast

Re: what's buggin you?

well i think fri 13th factored into all this. i am now typing this on a POS winXP box i put together for wifie. she was playing around sending kodak slideshows to auntie, and poof- dead win98se box. dammitall

this osys appears to be very much a system process hog, but it does look pretty. win2k will be in the werx... anyhoo- thanx vedy much PFB. that really seems to be the bug EXCEPT the mandibles are no where near the same... so this is a very very premature lad or a freak of nature, or a friggin alien! and BTW, my wife found it on the floor, so its KOA and i can get more pics if needed.

and i (duh) could've cleaned up that fuzzy pic easily if i'd only remebered to let the kodak 'enhance' feature scan it before sending...
