A joke with racial overtones is disrespectful not just to the person in the story. It's disrepectful to the people you tell it to. Making it into a joke does not make it less disrepectful. When I objected to a racially motivated joke, you said "people should say sticks and stones...", but when you were offended you said "can't put the bullet back in the gun", a clever way of saying "stuff your gddmned apology".
