I'm bought my first boat this year and it needs a tune up. The previous owner said it is a ford v8, 188hp with a merc outdrive. I was going to replace the points but I'm not sure where to set the gap at? Can anyone tell me?

Thanks

I usually set them up with a dwell of 30-32 degrees.
If you don't have a dwell meter, then just set it up with a .018-.019 gap.
Good luck,
Justin
www.sterndrive.cc

Not to sound pompous, but if you don't even know where your points are, you better let a Pro do it. You could cost yourself more than its worth.

Yo jagans - you're chastising a guy who posted this back in 2004. I'm guessing he has had it fixed by now.
