Hi,
It's a Chevy 350 engine with a pre alpha outdrive. We bought it this way and are trying to fix it and make it safe. The only thing we did put it on it was a car carb temporarily (just cuz it bothered my dad something was missing), and batttery terminals just to make sure it started. We could use your help fixing it. Please tell us what you see that NEEDS to be replaced to make it safe.

It's our first boat. Other than that we really don't know, but want to fix it. Hopefully you guys can tell us how.

There is a white hose coming off the valve cover that should be going up to the flame arrestor. Not sure what you have on there. Kinda looks like an air filter.

Looks like you are missing a nut off of one of your risers and it looks like its leaking.

Air cleaner needs to be replaced with a spark arrestor. (same with auto carb, needs to be marine)

Alternator doesn't look like a marine Alt, got a better pic?

Riser leak and missing nut in the 3rd pic looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

Bilge pump needs to go below the engine, not on top :D

BTW, what's up with the trim pump. No workie?

That's not a carb but a throttle body fuel sys, so you should have an electric fuel pump.
Why is bilge pump on top and hooked to eng hoses.

Re: What's not marine parts in here?

Sorry I meant, the only thing we put on there was an air filter, not carb... it was obvious something was missing.

We've been working on the trailer and almost have that done, so know we're trying to fix what we can on our own before we take it to a mechanic

I don't know why that bilge hose is connected, hopefully it's not connected to the engine. I know we did replace the bilge and hose. I'm hoping that's the old one we left ontop.

Here's pics of the fuel system.

Regarding Trim Pump... is it the one with the red wire?

All we know is it starts. We started it and let it run for like 30 seconds. Hopefully we didn't mess anything up. But I had to hear it run before we gave the money.

The big thing we did notice is that the trim doesn't move up, down or make any noise (not even clicking)

Thanks for pointing it out, at least we have somewhere to start

Yes that is an electric fuel pump next to the filter,The next photo looks like an inline auto filter and the last pic is the trim pump with the red wire.

Does this mean they need to be replaced? Re: Manifolds and risers?

looks like an auto engine. looks like the MAP sensor is dangling and it looks like an EGR valve just aft of the MAP sensor.
looks seriously cobbled.

Um not to add to your issues but i saw you started it out of the water and let it run for 30 seconds. Now you have to wonder about the water pump and impeller I would think.

A $25 impeller isn't much of a worry when you have an automotive engine stuck in a boat. Nothing on that engine is CG approved or safe. If bad manifolds and risers, then you need to empty the engine compartment and start over with a marine engine and all accessories. Of course, if your transom, stringers, or decks are rotten, you might want to just forget it. You still have no idea what shape the drive or transom shield is in.
