Whats the difference between 332-2986 switchbox 4 and 6 cylinder

I am curious what the difference is between a 4 cylinder and a 6 cylinder switchbox 332-2986?

4-cyl and 6-cyl CDI boxes will work in either application.

However, if you are driving an old-style Quicksilver tach from the tach output on the box, the tach won't read correctly unless you use a 4-cyl box on the 4-cyl motor and 6-cyl box with the Six.

Most modern setups are gonna be using a 12-pole tach which takes input from one of the stator leads at the rectifier, in that case it won't matter which switchbox is used.

You can upgrade from the old system by moving the brown tach wire from the switchbox to the rectifier, and using a newer tach.

Thanks.I am using a aftermarket tach (automobile Tach) that I had going to the coil on the previous setup,which actually worked.But I am restoring it to its factory setup.I will later add an aftermarket marine tach and go straight to the stator.Thanks again
