whats the difference between these 2 part numbers?

mercruiser part # 807166a1 and mercruiser part # 807166a3 is there a difference?
i have a 2000 merc 454 serial #oL621407 mpi gen VI L-29

I believe A1 fits inside of the pipe, and A3 fits on top and replaces an older style shutter.

Actually, the A3 shutters are the new style, the A1 is the old style. If ordering from Mercruiser, the A3 will be sent if you were to order the A1.

While normally this is known to be true, Actually in this case it appears not to be true at this time.

Part number 807166A1 shows no Item Supersession Chain from mercruiser.

But part number 807166A3 Shows these part numbers in the Item Supersession Chain:

Tailguners engine should require him to use part number 807166A1.

Mercruiser also has a stand alone part number of 807166A2, But it has no good picture of what this style shutter looks like that I can find, But it looks like achris remembered the differents.
