What's the main advantage of a 3000 euro 15hp engine over a 1500 euro one?

1.
Is the difference of price all about reliability? The more expensive the less chances it breaks? Also, does it last more years?

2.
In order to keep the costs low, do you think buying a 1500 euros motor is a bad idea?

thanks

Without details like make, model, year, 2stroke, 4stroke, the only difference I can see is 1500 euros and someones willingness to pay.

Are you comparing apples to apples or apples to concrete blocks? If these are identical engines, then there is no difference except price. If these engines are identical AND you have checked retail prices and find that 3000 euros is very high, then you are paying too much for an identical item. If one is previously owned or a motor that a dealer has used as a demo and then this is still a "used" engine. Without more detail we cannot provide appropriate advice.

If you can buy a new high quality15HP engine for 3K Euros, expect to buy same quality new engine but with much less HP for 1.5 K Euros. Or do you plan to buy Chinese engines for half the price of Japanese same HP engines ?

All right, thanks everybody. The thing is I don't know which brand to buy.

Is there any good 10-15hp motor (or reasonably ok in terms of reliability) I can buy for around 1000-1500 euro?

I usually boat in the weeknds only or during the week for few hours, and in the summer only, and I very slowly in the canals of my city.

If you can suggest me any good brand for that price, it would be great.

Check if 2 strokes Tohatsu are still available in your area, see which engine model 1K, 1.5K Euros can buy. If you like cruising the canals at displacemenet speed don't go under a 5 HP engine. 2.5-3.5 HP are very basic, having either of them is much better than rowing...
