Sunny, clear and breezy. I don't ever "intentionally" go out in bad conditions. Always check the forecast. It is easy to get caught out when things go bad. Be prepared. Pay attention.

I never try and guess the seas but instead use the NOAA Weather Buoy reports. The Buoy will give you the wind speed and direction, the height of swells, the time between swells, the height of waves, the steepness of waves and much more. Over 8 feet or less than 8 seconds we do not launch unless calm winds and forcast for inproving seas. Been out in 9 feet every 7 seconds and it was a safe dry ride but no fun fishing. Main thing with big sea's is to slow down. With a following sea never go over the top of a swell but stay on the back side high enough you can see over. Any time the seas are over about 6 feet all hands need to watch for antennas or flags as can be very close to another boat before you see them.

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.phtml?$station=46013

I always pay attention to the direction of the wind and the forecast.. here on the oregon caost most of the time you have a few hours in the morning where there is very little wind.. I just make sure I knwo where it is going to be comgin from so that when It does come up I am going with it back home instead of against it.. I've gone up to 30 miles doing that to home before.. by the wya. i have a 19' alumaweld.
d
