Question???

All tickets sold out, but stadiums up to 90% empty. It is to say the least, a rather sad sight to see. :(

The Chinese officials won't respond to reporters questions, the International Olympic Committee says they are investigating, but the Chinese are being uncooperative.

Who really bought all the 7million tickets?

The hotels around the Olympic venues in China reporting 50% less than there normal non-Olympic occupancy rates? China throws a party, but won't let anyone come.

Warning!!!

If you are interested in seeing the results stay off the Chinese site: http://results.beijing2008.cn

I pulled it up, and my Firewall went crazy!

Go here instead: http://www.olympic.org/ the official International Olympic Committee website.

Re: Whats up at the Olympics? & Warning!

Now German TV just showed a overview of todays indoor events, and everything other than the event fields/courts has now been digitally darkened to the point of not being able to see the empty stands.

The IOC complains and the Chinese just manipulate the coverage. Don't you just love government controlled Press & Media.

I caught some of the Womens Beach Volley Ball today, but to be honest, I didn't notice if anyone but me was watching. Man that is what I call real athletes. Now that is a mesmerizing sport. I love the tactics & strategy involved.

They showed world class, with top ten ranked tennis players today, and no one, I mean no one was in the stands! Empty! Same at the rowing and handball events. In the swimming events they moved everyone down to the poolside seats which still left about 30-40% percent of the upper arena empty. They messed up on a couple of shots though, and panned the stands for a second or two.

How many people are really going to spend the money involved just to get to china compared to other locations

There was a bunch of smoke and mirrors about the % of tickets sold to locals at a local price

This BBC sight has the best info i have seen and makes it easy to find out about the sports that you like

.........................of smoke and .....................................
Due to the air quality issues..............
the word smoke has been banned from the Chinese vocabulary for the duration of the Olympics

notice they won't show any shots of the sky? not sure if that's only because there's only haze/pollution to see or if the censors haven't instructed them to not show it.

Re: Whats up at the Olympics? & Warning!

There are so many things going on at one time it would be strange to see packed stands at the tiddly winks qualifying rounds when China and USA are playing basketball. I didn't see any empty seats at that one, or at the women's gymnastics prelims.

I care not whether the hotels are full or not. I will just rocket and copter in, watch what I want, then on to Barbados for dinner. :) :)

I think that they were actually sold out but after the CEO guy got stabbed and killed the first day, well, maybe the fun was not worth the possible risk.

Small or large, the tickets were sold out.

With millions on waiting list who were told you can't get any because there aren't any left to be had. Thousands standing out side the security zones wanting tickets to watch, but are being told to go away there aren't any.

The stands are empty, and not just at the events that don't interest Americans. The swimming events can't be considered a side show act. There are Olympic first being set at the swimming events, and they were according to the IOC 30-40% empty.

Yea, but if the seats are sold, they are sold, they can not sell them again.
I don't know anything about the stands and how many people are there, I am camping.:D

I hope it rains cats and dogs on you!

NOOOOOT REALLY! Have a good time! :)

My point was that some of the posters, seem to think there is no interest in these side events. Hence, no people in the stadiums.

Re: Whats up at the Olympics? & Warning!

Most venues sell their tickets in "packages" which not only include the event you want to see, but other events that you don't care about. Since not everybody is interested in every event, seats go empty. That along with what SBN said.

Re: Whats up at the Olympics? & Warning!

Yes, I too saw flashes of the womens beach volley ball....US vs Germany. Can't recall the result.

Looked at buying tickets for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and gave it away as a bad joke.....I think I had to buy a package, or something complicated, where I had to apply for 1st preference, then a 2nd pref in case I couldn't get the 1st. I wanted the opening and closing. I gave it away and got a new TV.

I don't think we should be critical of China's polution....it is not of their making....we are the ones who demand a $1.50 pair of undies or a $15 power drill...if you don't like them and what they do....refuse to buy 'Made in China'. Our economy is bouncing along....the Chinese want every bit of raw material we can dig out of the ground...and they pay well....and we live well.

My complaint is the coverage.....I don't necessarily just want to see the events Aussies are in....I want to see all the good fights and events.
Guess you guys have the same....if a Yank isn't in the event, you don't see it.

Cheers
Phillip
