Re: What's Your Alltime Favorite Movie

Just had a flash back--as a little kid Grandma would take us to a cinema in Cudahy Wisconsin-
One memorable movie was "Hello Dollie" w/ Strisand. Still remember the fasination I had with that movie, maybe it was Strisands voice or looks, who knows.

BTW, can't stand Strisand now 'cause of her politics.

Re: What's Your Alltime Favorite Movie

Snailman ... The Princess Bride??? Can't believe it. That is a great flick! Stupid as can be, but it will make you laugh! My favorite part is the R.O.U.S.s (Rodents of Unusual Size) in the fire swamp! And man, can that Andre the Giant act! I am looking for the 6 fingered man that killed my father! If any of you have not seen it, you got to get a copy, but don't expect to be enlightened or blown away by the effects. It is a stupid kids story that when watched in that context is a real hoot. Not my favorite movie, but it does rank up there.

Favorite movie? Dunno. If it has Clint Eastwood, John Wayne or Jimmy Stewart in it, it has to be good. Probably my all-time favorite is, "It's a Wonderful Life." One person can really make a difference.

Now, back to reality - if there are guns and fast cars, and/or things get blown up it has to be good. Oh, and don't forget the aliens. They would never forgive me if I didn't mention them!

ASpeck!

Thanks! I love that one! I finally found it on DVD. Can you believe that Princess Buttercup grew up to play "Jenny" in Forrest Gump!? Yep! That's the same girl! Princess Bride was her first film.

Ghana!? I've been meaning to ask you about that! Ghana!??? I used to live in Kaduna, Nigeria back in the (very) early 70's.
:D Is W.A.W.A. still in effect?

No, I threw that in as a joke. It actually was a porno made back in the 70s or 80s. LF & I for some reason thought it was funny way back then.

ASpeck,

I don't want to hi-jack the thread but W.A.W.A. was "West Africa Wins Again!" Whenever something went so completely, amazingly and unexplainably wrong that it left you standing there shaking your head in awe THAT was W.A.W.A.

Re: What's Your Alltime Favorite Movie

unicorn, I couldnt be that skinny for FORTY million dollars! Eighty million now, yer talkin serious money!

LOL

GB - great choices! Joe Don Baker played him allright, but Bo Svenson, all six foot six of him, looked like he didnt even need that dammed stick of his! and of course, I made my own "walking stick"
:D

hard question tho, I tend to judge movies on how well I can recite them, I know several movies verbatim, lOVE the quiet man, blazing saddles,

one movie tho, panned by reviewers, is my fave, I cried (not a girly sobbing now, dammit, a manly dampening of the eyes! :p ) at the end of Somewhere in Time ... he looked so totally devastated, so lost ... and that music, variations on Paginni, haunting, beautiful - I want to go see The Grand Hotel, stay there, looks like every vista should grace a post card ... course, they shot the movie that way, shouldnt be surprised

Trivia fans ... what does he find that sends him forward from the past? (hint, give me the year of what it was that he found!)

Would be a good post to have everyones favorite SCENES from assorted movies, I really didnt care for the movie Bullitt, but ive watched that chase scene quite a few hundred times, as loud as I could play it!

:D :D :D :D :D

Re: What's Your Alltime Favorite Movie

Thanks CastawayRay, Bo Svenson was actually closer to (Buford Pusser's real size, 6'6" 250lbs) he was much a man with or without the Stick! But I know what you mean, I have a Sitck myself :D

It would be hard to pick out just one of the favorte scenes in those series. I guess one of my favorite scenes shows how Gun Control will Just NOT work. After one of the first of 7 attempts to assassinate him, Buford was shot up,
while being unarmed, and swore he get them if he had to tear em apart with his Bare Hands. The scene with his Deputy telling Buford's wife Pauline, You heard him, "With his bare hands, they are no match for one of these." (while holding out his pistol for her to see) He then told her, Your going to have to decide if your going to get over your fear of guns, or live with your husband, he is not going to pick one up till you say It's ok. Then it showed her placing a gun on him. Great Scene in a turning point of her life, realizing it was a necessary tool, for self protection.

Another great scene of that series, was after being shot in the jaw, having a cast on his face, ramming into the bar, when the town folks, got together and burned the building down, as Buford was driven away. Scenes like these show what people can accomplish if they stick together, to defeat a necessary Evil. You don't see that level of support these days.

Snailman....I love the line from Princess Bride, " I think you know not the meaning of this word," and use it all the time nowadays!
