Are you on shore power by chance or moored next to someone who is? Faulty shore power wiring will do them in quick

+1^ - Nothing like a hot marina to do in a set of anodes. Check to make sure your Mercathode system is working properly (if you have one)

Re: When are anodes all used up?

Well i will say thanks to this site it might have saved my outdrive. (bravoII) last year i took my pitted up outdrive off had it sand blasted painted it with por 15 paint and installed the correct anodes!!! (magnesuim for fresh water) and boy did they work. the outdrive looks great. My boat doesnt use shore power but alot of boats around me do. I followed the sites advice and am really happy i did. thanks again dan

Pitting is expected, I replace them when they are around half gone.

'Tap' on them regularly with a small wrench, sometimes they will 'Pit' so much they are nothing more than a honeycomb and will fall apart when lightly tapped. You want to replace them when 'half' the material is gone, but the pysical size can be larger than 1/2 when 'honeycombed'.

Everytime the boat is on the trailer and you are doing your walk-around inspection, is a good time to include your anodes as a regular part of your inspection.
