I think the first week in April I will start all the things I plan on doing this spring (motor rebuild with upgrades, interior work, ect). Hopefully I will see the water around May 1st. What your plans?

I would need a ice breaker. Can't wait for open water to try out the new boat. That's the price you pay for living in Idaho.

It was real nice here in Nashville last week; low 70's. This weekend it cooled off after the thunderstorms; 50's and breezy. Was in Seattle early in the month it was in the 50's there; beautiful city. Was in Minneapolis the week before that and it was scrape the car windows cold in the morning; in the 20's! I've been out twice so far.

Re: When are you going to pull it out of hibernation?

I'm about two or three warm days and a good strong West wind away from having the ice gone at my place. I could walk out a full mile two weeks ago - now I couldn't make it 50 feet! I'll use the tin can for now, as the glass boat doesn't appreciate bumping the small ice floes that are sure to dot the waterscape for the next month or so...
- Scott

Around Easter, I think the ice will be off the lakes. Right now I would guess there is over 3 ft of ice still. At least the snowmobiles are still running.
Dman

Tin goes in April 24 just in time for fishing season opener.

The 'glass boat goes in around Victoria Day (late may for my Yankee friends).

I did sit in my tin boat on the weekend after I installed a new back saving seat.....

Walk onto my dock to try my new hand held fish finder. Managed to put the transducer through some cracks in the ice to see if it works....

Joe

Re: When are you going to pull it out of hibernation?

For all you guys down south all I can say is “summer is coming”. You know, 105 degrees with 98% humidity and the sun just beating down on you. After reading some posts from our neighbors up north I really feel sorry for you all. Most of my family lives in Maine so I know how you feel. I am just happy I live some where in the middle. We get all four seasons here. In the winter we have had a 36” two day snow fall and in the summer a couple 100 degree days but the best is spring and fall you can go out in a open boat with the sun shinning and be totally comfortable. That is what I call a perfect day.

Re: When are you going to pull it out of hibernation?

I'm hoping to drop it in the river in the first week of April just to run it. I don't know if any of the local clubs or launches will have the docks in yet but I can beach it and go from there. Just signed a contract for lakeside townhouse in SC so that in two years when we move there will be reason to shrink wrap!!!!

Re: When are you going to pull it out of hibernation?

Everything is in the boat and ready to go, except the batteries. Trailer bearings pm'd. Lights checked. Tackle box, rods, net, etc.

But I'll need to install skis and a drivetrack if I'm gonna use it anytime soon.

The ice (still 2'+) is slowly eroding, from the bottom.
The snow is still deep. Heck, we just got 16" last week.

I'll be heading south to the rivers for walleye on Easter.

Re: When are you going to pull it out of hibernation?

I'm pulling her out 2nd week of april for 2-3 weeks of updates. Then to the lake. I was driving in Two Rivers last weekend and there was some guy out in a 16-18ft aluminum boat trying for rainbows on lake michigan. Water temp got to be around 34-37 degrees.

A better man than I....

Taking it out, heck down here in Tampa we never put them away, bring on the heat, nothing better than a July day watching the sun rise and its a cool 80 degrees already. Lived on CT for the first 21 years of my life, I remember waiting till april, been there, seen it, done that, don't want to do it ever again. :)
