when carb is leaking?

I have the top carb on my mercury leaking at the throttle shaft that goes down to the bottom carb. I was told it is worn and it cant be fixed and i should buy a new one is this true?

The float is probably sticking in that carb, there is no other reason that that much fuel should be in that area in the first place.

The worn throttle shaft should not cause the leaking fuel. However, a worn throttle shaft can cause other problems and maybe that is why they said replaced the carb.

tha's what they told that once it is worn down it will cause a rough idle. should i replace it with a new one ?

Why not simply replace the seal on the throttle shaft ?

it would cost $300 to reblace with a new one, the top one only. the bottom one they can't get

What is the HP and serial number of that motor.

Assume when you refer to $300... you're talking about replacing the whole carb body, or are you just replacing only the throttle shaft & seals?

Boatrookie, It would take a lot of wear to make the carb unserviceable, due to air leakage past the throttle plate. Is there any play in the throttle shaft? Normally if you set the idle mixture correctly, it will compensate for any air leakage.
