I'm curious about something....
How does one know when to replace a water pump housing??? I know if it is pitted you'd have to. Are there other reasons that aren't obvious? I have a couple of 50's outboards that run too hot although they seem to be pumping lots of water and I've checked the water passages and they're clear. Is it due to the fact that the water temps. in Louisiana this time of year are like 80 degrees??? These same motors ran perfectly cool during winter. If I could sneak in another question---If an impeller looks good and feels good, can it still be weak? Could it be Sierra impellers??? I changed one the other day for a fellow who brought me a BRP impeller for a '58 sportwin and it was so much better built than the sierras that I'm used to, I went and bought myself one for a '63 fastwin I bought the other day for 50 bucks. It did pump very well.
Thanks,
JBJ
