When to replace impeller?

i have the impeller unit all apart on my 6hp fisherman - on looking at the impeller it actually seems to be in good shape - it has some flexibility, none of the 'wings' are broken - how bad do they have to be before they need replacing? Also the stainless steel plate is ok but just needs a good clean. OK to reuse this too? I am looking for a source for roll pin which is at top of drive shaft....I am a bit nervous because when the thing came apart the pin was bent upwards...kind of makes me think I forced it down rather than allowed it to come down thru slot. Hopefully no major damage. Need a new pin - can I cut a longer one to size?
Are they available at NAPA? I can get the impeller and plate from NAPA but it is about $30 which I dont want to spend if not necessary.

Thank you,

Lee

Re: When to replace impeller?

Impeller lifetime is about 3-5 years, then they start loosing capacity.
The smaller the impeller and the less eccentricity in the housing, the shorter life time. 9.9/15 ought to be changed every year!

Re: When to replace impeller?

Thanks, I also have found what the culprit of my overheating engine is - I did not realize until reading the useful information given in a previous post that they have a thermostat - took the cover off and the thermostat is corroded bad - probably was not opening - ugh....could have saved myself a lot of trouble - anyway going to replace impeller as I have it apart and hopefully next time it will come apart easier.
