i have a 1999 sea ray sun dancer with a merc 5.7 and alpha one drive im the second owner the boat spent 6yrs in salt water and 1 yr in brackish (hudson river) the risers and manifold are original i noticed at the end of last season when running at the top end the temp went from 170 which is where it normally is to about 185 or so my mechanic says i should replace the risers and manifold and that they should be done every 5 yrs any suggestions also what does a job like this usually cost thanks jim

Lifespan greatly depends on flushing etc. but I would say at 6 yrs they are due to at least be looked at. If they fail it us big $$. I agree with your mechanic as the risers age the water passages restrict and if the impeller and rest of the cooling system are in good shape I suspect the risers. I paid about 500 for parts and did them myself on my SBC.

Welcome to Iboats.......:)
Yep, you are overdue!.....
As a DIY project, about $700.....
I would check the prices at ebasicpower for the parts.....
Time factor will depend on your boat's configuration, but 2- 21/2 hours per side should be ample.......;)
