Where are the parts to my head?

My 1975 Regal has a head in the cuddy with a pump on the side but I cannot find where the storage tank and/or fluid reservoir may be located. Is it possible that all I have is the head itself without a tank which makes it useless for solids unless outside of no-discharge zones.

If there was a tank, then there would have to be a fitting of some kind to pump it out right? I would think that it would be fairly obvious that there was a tank onboard.

This is my first boat with a head and there are no instructions on the vessel like there should be so please let me know if my understanding of how it works is correct.

Basically, there is a pump and a valve. With the valve in flush, water will be drawn in thru the hull and into the bowl while water in the bowl is simultaneously pumped out of the bowl and thru the hull. This is how the bowl is flushed. If there is water in the bowl, the valve is moved to 'pump dry' and water in the bowl is pumped out without new water being pumped in.

Without a holding tank you have an illegal set up. :(

You are correct on the operation.

Re: Where are the parts to my head?

Is it illegal for liquids as well? Also, am I correct to assume that there would be some sort of fitting or valve to empty the tank if there was a tank? Since the head is in the cuddy I would think that the tank would be up front as well possibly under one of the benches but I can't find any hatch or other means to access those areas.

Do you know if this setup would have been illegal in 1975 when the boat was built?

Thanks.

Somewhere in the bow area exterior you will see a vent much like your fuel vent. This is necessary for pump out. No vent, likely there wont be a tank. If there is a vent go to the interior and follow the vent line. you'll find the tank at the end of the line.

Also, It is illegal to dispose of waste emptying from a tank, can, bottle etc. however it's perfectly legal to weedle over the side if needed...

I personally just whizz over the side, or jump in.

The hoses go straight thru fiberglass and under the benches so there's nothing for me to follow. I'll check again for a vent but I think all I have is an in and an out.

Re: Where are the parts to my head?

I found a pic that's similar to what I believe my setup to be. The only difference is that I don't believe my head is below the waterline and therefore doesn't have the loops but otherwise I believe this to be accurate.

I'm heading out in a couple minutes to see if there's a vent of some kind. And if the picture is showing valves at the seacocks, I don't believe that I have those either as there is no access that I can find to the hull in those areas.

My little 24' Grady is rigged with a porta-pot that has a pumpout and overboard discharge, but no real holding tank. It's basically a standard porta-pot with 2 1/2 gal holding capacity. But then they ran a discharge line to a Y valve. From their it goes to a pumpout fitting or to a pump that will discharge overboard. Pretty useless since it fills up quick. But that may be how your boat is rigged as well.
