Where can I get original color wire?

I am planning on replacing most/all of the wiring in my boat. I would like to keep the wire colors the same (since they match the manual and are so easy to find the correct one)...BUT I have never found the same colors (ex blue w/purple stripe) on any online retailer or store. Am I looking for something that doesn't exist or just looking in the wron places?<br /><br />-JustMrWill

You can buy whole OEM harnesses on eBay with the proper colors and just break them down.

I was hoping to avoid that...cant see the condition of the strands when buying from ebay...don't want to purchase the same "problem" that I am trying to replace. So there are no companies that actually make these wires?<br /><br />-JustMrWill

Hey Will<br /> I just read a post that included all the Marine grade wires, colors and gauge with the NAPA cross reference. It may have been at www.mercstuff.com. <br /><br />You may not find 'purple with a black stripe' but the ABYC codes are pretty forgiving on code. I got a marine electrical book too if you wanna borrow it. There are basic core items that call out for a color code. After that it is pretty open

You might check Granger or McMaster Carr. I found some wires at a place that rebuilt DC equipment. The wires were the same color but were not marine grade wires. See not signs of deterioration at connectors.

You can usually find brand new OEM surplus - no need to worry about condition.

Check with your local dealer (OMC,Johnnyrude) they can order the wire in 100 ft.rolls (not that expensive ).If you found corrosion in the wiring it had to also get exposed to air,as well as water.<br />If you need a harness from the control to the motor,they are available all made up,from your dealer,also.<br /><br />DHP
