Where do I start with a 1984 Merc 150?

I just bought a 1984 Mercury 150 and I know nothing about this motor. Where can I find out about the Kill Switch, Controls of the motor, general starting of the motor. maintenance, ect....????

Do I purchase a 1984 manual and it will explain all this?

Yep,
Owner's manual will tell you enough to run it and generally maintain it. It also covers emergency operations, like what to do when the hydraulic tilt fails, or the oil alarm goes off.

A maintainance manual will tell you enough to scatter it all over the shop and put it back together.
