Where do the wires go??

I have two sets of wires that I need to know how to hook them up. They go from the battery area to the run /charge switch then to the TM connector. The wires are two red wires and two black wires. The reds have breakers on them.
I need to get 24 volts to my ornge/blk lead on the TM plug and 12 volts to the Red/blk lead on the plug.
I really want to keep the run charge switch like it is because it also works a meter and switch on the bow that gives me voltage for the batteries.
Do I just need to hook up wires 1&2 to one bat and 3&4 to the other. I have not done this because of my major fear of melting things down.

If you are confident that the wiring has not been tampered with at the Run/Charge or 12/24 switches on the motor your connections are simple. Connect one pair of Red and Black wires to POS and NEG respectively on either battery. Connect the second pair of Red and Black wires to POS and NEG on the other battery. Make certain the Black wires are matched with the proper Red wires.

Thanks for the reply silvertip. Ok I'll try that. I read so many posts about parrallel and series that I just didn't want to do something I would regret that ended in a puff of smoke.

I ran continuity tests and wired the pairs to the batteries. I lost my 12volts at the ornge/blk on the TM connector. Maybe I have a short in the run/charge switch. I'll get a new one and see where to go from there. I guess its time to start shot gunning.

Re: Where do the wires go??

Check your e-mail. I provided a very detailed description of how this system works. Here is a diagram of a typical 12/24 system that uses a Charge/Run switch. The lower two terminals (E & F) on the switch feed a Battery 1 & 2 Condition switch and gauge if there is one. Keep in mind that if you have a 12/24v trolling motor and the boat does not have a Charge/Run switch, this is not the wiring you need. You only need three wires directly to the receptacle. In the diagram below, its terminals B and D that provide the series connection for 24V.

Success!! Because of your drawing I was able to do a continuity check on the wires leading to the batteries and get the correct ones to the correct hookups. Also, your indepth detail of how the run/charge switch contacts work I discovered a bad contact in it. I purchased a new one. Even the battery condition switch and meter is working again!!! God Bless folk like you !!!!!!!!!
