With my fishing rig, i do a lot of fast (4-5mph) shallow (2'-6' ft) trolling in weedy areas so i sometime pick up debris and, in the past 6 years, my '93 60hp 2-stroke had a couple of overheat episodes resulting mainly from the telltale being completely blocked.
Now that i've rebuilt it, cause compression was going south (cylinders were scored), i want to avoid the same situation and i add a water pressure gauge, but it's not the end of all. If, by example, the water discharge get clogged again, i know the pressure will remain high but the engine will still overheat so i also picked up a 60?-220 cylinder head temp gauge
They recommend to put the sender on the upper head bolt but, as you may know, those triple were ?blind holes?, i.e. they don't have a removeable head, so there's no bolts and, unlike the 75-90hp, they don't even have a removeable water jacket cover.
Where should i put the sender? It's a contact type and the bolt is only for holding it against the block. I can drill and tap a hole but i don't want to screw the water passages...There's bolts on the t-stat cover but my thoughts are this may be too cool there...
Any ideas?
