Where is the serial number on my Merc!?

Hey guys,

I am trying to get all of my paper work squared away to register my boat in Texas and I'm having a hell of a time trying to find the serial number on my mercury outboard. I purchased it in TN where they don't require a separate title for the motor so I don't have any previous paper work on the outboard specifically. I've searched high and low and google'd it plenty of times to no avail.

At this point I'm kind of concerned that it was ground/sanded off or something...

It's a 3 cyl with a 70hp cowling (don't know for sure what hp it is)

Any help at all would be awesome!

Should be on the front of the motor over the tilt tube.

Wiped off a good bit of gunk/grease up there but still didn't see anything resembling a serial number?

If it was there, it would be a riveted plate.

Sometimes there is a welch plug in the block with the serial number. Might take some searching.

Ah ok, yeah it wasn't there.
I'll try to hunt down that welch plug you mentioned.
Otherwise I guess I'll just drag it down to my local Mercury dealer and see if they can help.

So I still haven't quite given up on trying to find the sucker myself.
I've been cleaning her up/doing some routine maintenance in hopes to find it covered up by some grease or dirt but to no avail so far.
I've also exhausted every thread that I can find on every boating related forum that google knows.
I talked to a local merc dealer/service center but they couldn't help much over the phone.
If I can't find it by Thursday, I'm going to drag it down there and have them try to hunt it down.

Where is the freeze plug located on the block?
The only spot that seems to be around the right size is just an empty space (where the arrow is pointing)
And the other spot that a couple of threads mentioned as the location by the fuel pump is void of the plug as well (where the circle is)

Is the plug a functioning piece of hardware? Where in God's name is it!?!

I also unscrewed the electrical panel in hopes that it would be hiding under there but no dice...
