I recently acquired a 1982 Johnson 150 (it was free). I runs fine and I have been told that the engine is in especially good condition for its age. The problem that I have is that I have no RPM or engine temperature indication. I purchased a brand new engine wire harness and a brand new harness that connects to the outboard and contains the ignition switch, kill switch, over temperature alarm, and a three pin, female amphenol (unknown purpose). I believe that I once read that there was an OEM gauge set that connected to this amphenol. But I need more information than that. I cannot determine from the Seloc shop manual or the documentation that came with the harness, which wires in this amphenol, if any, are for the tachometer or the engine temp.
Is it possible that this engine did not have actual quantitative temp indication? If this is the case, I remember installing a bolt on cylinder head temp sender on a neighbors boat, but cannot seem to find one for purchase anywhere. I have found the thread in type, but I believe that this type f sender was not made for my year engine, nor is there a threaded hole to install one in.
Any help on these questions would be endlessly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.
