Just curious, where the cone shifting clutch on a Volvo Penta SX drive is located?

I have looked at exploded parts diagrams of the upper and lower unit assembly's and can't seem to find it. On my old Evinrude OB the clutch dogs were in the lower unit on the propshaft.

Can anyone point out the shifting clutch on a picture or diagram?

Thanks Bruce,

Is it part #28 - Sliding Sleeve?

Do these wear out like Clutch Dogs will?
Is there a shift cable bellows on Volvo's like there is on a Mercruiser?

Anything else besides a Drive Shaft bellows that should be changed periodically to make sure the boat doesn't take on water?

No shift cable bellows. There is a rubber hose that the shift cable goes through and the end of the hose is threded into the transom housing. The only time you would replace it is if it leaked which I believe is rare

item 67

As far as the clutch itself, I have never taken one apart so I am not familiar with what wears out.

make sure you replace the oblong water seal everytime you pull your drive. Item 87 in the picture.

Like all drives, always replace o-rings and plastic washers on all drain/fill plugs when changing the drive oil.
