1 - While underway, it could tip over, slide out, shift. The built-in version have mounting points built into the unit to prevent this. I may add angle brackets as recommended where it is hidden and not an eye sore (some where inside cabinet). Maybe I'll epoxy the brackets to the fridge I don't know yet...
2 - The shell being off makes it built-in since there is now a lip above and below to mount/secure to cabinet.
Not sure about the vent issue yet. Most free standing units recomend some 5 inches space for sides and back. I could add that to the cabinet design easily.
Why can't you just put the free standing fridge into the cabinet as is?
Why does the shell have to be off other than to make it slightly smaller.
One note would to see about venting needed to the backside versus just the front bottom on built-in units.
