Hi all,<br /><br />thanks for the input.<br /><br />Techtoosweet, I was hoping to get an idea of different states so that my next visit could be more focussed. I get your point about missing some of the better sights. Nothing stops me from keeping within California and flying out to the Grand Canyon.<br /><br />I was hoping to drive on the coastal road between LA and SF. I do know that this will take significantly longer than the interstate but may well be worth it.<br /><br />So then how's this;<br /><br />Fly into SF<br /><br />Motor up to Yosemite (weather permitting) 2 nights<br />Motor down to Kings Canyon and Sequoia via Oakhurst, Fresno and Squaw Valley spend two / three nights.<br /><br />Motor down to pick up route 198 west to pick up route 41 and travel down to San Luis Obispo pick up Highway 1 and head north through San Simeon, Big Sur and Monterey. Take two / three days to tour back up to SF depending on how much time was spent in Kings Canyon.<br /><br />Fly from SF to Grand Canyon via Flagstaff spend two nights in the Grand Canyon on the southern rim. Fly back to SF and then home.<br /><br />Cheers<br />Andrew

Weather permitting that will be the key. As I recall the road between Fresno and Yosemite is rarely closed and the heaviest snowfall is usually in Late January and Early February. Problem is - Fog in the Valley is bad in December. My personal experience at the Grand Canyon was in late August and standing on the rim waiting for the sun to rise was about as cold as I can ever remember being. The winter months along the coast is probably the best weather they have. Good Luck on your journey.

As an experienced tourist, let me congratulate you on your choice.<br /><br />SF is one of my favorite destinations. Don't miss the Golden Gate National Park.<br /><br />Drive up the pacific coast highway 1 is magnificent, stop at Pebble Beach if time allows & take the famous "seventeen-mile drive."<br /><br />Muir Woods National Park, site of the first meeting of the United Nations - a good half-day trip.<br /><br />You'll need lots and lots of film!<br /><br />Tourism is hard work, but somebody's gotta do it!

I did not know that! However, in this County that would hardly be a recommendation. <br />Gonna be kinda hard visiting Americas Christmas tree, while avoiding the human puke. <br />Edit-------------->I held on to this one a long time contemplating the pros and cons. jtex seem like a cat with his feet on the ground so decided to send. No offense good budy.
