If you were going to buy all your boating maintenance/springtime stuff at one store, where would you buy from?
I am talking about anything from spark plugs to hull cleaner, trim fluid, lower unit oil, seafoam(or some other cleaner/stabilizer), fiberglass filler, buffing/polish, light oil, grease, and I could go on and on and on..
Where is your "one stop shop" for all your boating needs?

West Marine's prices are a little on the steep side, but if you get online and find the best price on the identical item (not eBay or CL), they will price match. I saved $45 on a VHF antenna that way.

I buy most everything from this site, iBoats. Not sure why people keep asking where to buy boat supplies & parts on a forum hosted by one of the best places to do just that.

My local boat dealership has most of the stuff too (general maint) for a better price than West Marine, but neither come anywhere close in price or selection to iBoats.

I was under the assumption that they were looking for a storefront business.

Aint no such animal to me. I buy from wherever- some stuff online, some stuff at merc. dealer, some at Fleet Farm. Depends on what I need, how soon I need it, and how much it costs.

fleet farm is the same as farm and fleet. They are two brothers that used to be together in busines but split. So they both have the same style store but different names and thery are very competitive of each other. I work for a printer that prints for both and you should see the security measures they take to make sure each other does not see what the other has on sale. Sry way off topic

Everytime I see a thread like this on were to buy boat stuff, it really makes me wonder if the fine folks at iboats wonder why on earth do we even have a free forum.

Not trying to upset or offend anyone, just thinking out loud.

Re: Where would you go if.....

Well we have a Fleet Farm and a Cabelas superstore within five minutes from my house. If I had to choose one or the other, I'm leaning towards Fleetfarm for the prices and variety of things (building supplies to tackle) but I do enjoy going into Cabelas, so many many toys, and fun things just to walk down an isle with nothing but depth and fish finders. 10 isles full of various lures, boats...Cabelas definitely has more bling, but at a bigger cost, so for me, I usually go to Fleet Farm, can pick up some garbage bags while I get my fishing tackle.

Re: Where would you go if.....

im totally repowering my boat from ebay and craigslist. spent about 6500 in parts including a $2200 454 long block and a $2800 used bravo 3. new manifolds, risers circulating pump, alternator, bellows kit with gimbal bearing, trim senders, motor mounts, coil cap rotor wires and plugs and a raw water impeller pump kit. probably the only thing i'll actually go out and buy local will be oil and a filter. i saved well over a grand shopping the way i did.

The West Marine in Columbus, Ohio won't even match their own on line prices!

Re: Where would you go if.....

It's amazing and quite fun to search for online deals via Google:
inthe search box type exactly as this- shopping: (whatever you are looking for)

I saved a TON of money using this method a few days ago-

...my comment about iboats and why would they allow a free forum when discussing other places to get a deal is simple... the mere foot traffic on this site is wotht it's weight in gold for any retailer. Although people will shop at other stores/sites from time to time, the easiest place to look from the forum is right here! It makes the environment very non-corporate and free flowing, allowing us to discuss whatever we feel is important to boaters, including the need to find inexpensive deals which may be elsewhere from time to time. There are plenty of non-budget conscious people in this forum that can just go buy what they want or need without two more thoughts, for the rest of us, the bility to get information from other boaters makes iboats all the more valuable.
*think Progressive insurance.
