Hey johndoe, another possibility is it was painted, but the filter will be located behind the cool fuel box all the way at the back of the block, port side. The filter will only be about the size of your fuel filter, but there are longer versions available like the Baldwin B 35-S. Good Luck.

hate to ask this, but, back to basics, you do know what the oil filter looks like, right? in general, round cylinder, about 3-4" in dia., about 4-6" long, has flats on the sides of the closed end, probably painted black and blends in well with the engine. most likely mounted vertically close to the back of the oil pan. could someone have already removed the filter while you were away?

It helped me to remember that LEFT and PORT both have 4 letters, and both have a 'T' in it.

Now good luck with that filter!

Hopefully you'll have better luck with it than I did.. I broke mine off, and took the next several hours getting the rest of it off the block!

H.
