I am winterizing my 1983 120 hp I/O Mercruiser and want to change my gear drive oil but can't find a drain or hole to put it in.

Can anyone tell me where the drain and fill hole are? Does it use engine oil from the motor?

Thanks!

Barry

When your facing the back of the boat, the drain and fill plug are on the left side of the outdrive.

Drain and Fill plug are the same plug.
Get down on your knees and look under the little hump for a fairly good size regular head Screw.

That's the drain and that's where you fill the outdrive.

Now, up top same side of outdrive you'll see the vent screw - same thing, regular head screw.

- Take it out too..
- Fill the outdrive from the BOTTOM plug hole until fluid starts coming out the top, then put the top screw in first to cause a vacuum, then put the bottom screw plug in.

You're done.

Hope this helps you out.

Howdy.
Captain Hookinfinger's explanation says it all. Also, here's a link to a discussion on this procedure complete with a pic that you may find useful.

http://www.mercstuff.com/driveoil.htm

Regards, crt

No, it doesn't use motor oil. Special gear lube.
